From September 5-7 2022, the first CRC PhD workshop took place in Bremen. 14 participants joined the workshop and made it the successful event it was.

The workshop started with presentations from the individual clusters (Support Structure Design, Control and Monitoring, Coupled Systems, Rotor Design and Load from wind and wave). The clusters tried to focus on problems, where external help could be beneficial. An exchange across cluster boundaries took place and was received positively.

On Tuesday, we visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Enery Systems. After an introductory presentation in blade design we were given a guided tour where we visited, among other things, the rain erosion test rig, the Blademaker Demo Center and the rotor blade bending test rig. The excursion gave an interesting insight into the connection of scientific work and industry.

We spend the second half of the day in a workshop on networking on conferences. An external workshop leader showed us some basics on communication and body language.

Wednesday we spend in workshops that were prepared by the participants. Topics were Scientific visualization using python and matplotlib, Interdisciplinary Communication and a DeSiO Workshop. All presentations and workshops were well prepared and a mixture of CRC related topics and soft skills.

Overall, the workshop as a mix of excursion, scientific content and soft kills was a success!
